Many of you must have seen the video of the demonstration of Samsung’s latest most advanced technology “The Smart Window”. The video has been quite popular on social networks but if you have still not seen it just read this article and you’ll know. Here is all you should know about it (if you are not willing to buy it).

It’s just a concept till now but it has been heard that it will go into mass production soon. I still wonder who will buy it?

Concept:
The first thing that came to mind when I saw it was the “iBoard”. This is a funny pic which I shared incidentally on my website’s facebook page:

Now you know what I meant by “iBoard”. Samsung, I think, caught that idea and instead of marketing it like a board they made a window out of it.

What it’s marketed like:

Samsung introduced the smart window on the international CES. It’s a transparent one sided window. And as the name suggests it is “smart”. That means you can have apps, widgets, internet and everything which a Smartphone can offer. It also has customized options for “windows”. Like, you can make blinds open or close. You can also view live television on it.

What it really is:
It is actually just a huge touch screen with a camera facing the other side. It gives a “transparent” window effect. I think the most impressive thing here is that they managed to make such a big high resolution touch screen.

Price:
The price has not been disclosed yet but I am certain it’s going to be no less than 2000$!

Target Market:
I have no idea who they are going to sell this bad boy too!!

Conclusion:
The conclusion is that this thing is pretty cool and can make you go like “wow” for the first time but still if you think about it you would find its pointless. I mean you have a TV already, and also a computer and a window too. Why will you spend 2000$ on a combination of all these? The Smartphone became popular because of the portability but this thing neither has that factor. And it doesn’t even perform the “window” job well! I mean it doesn’t allow fresh air to pass through it!

Now I know that you would love to be in the minority report but buying a “transparent touch screen TV” is not something I would recommend. What do you think about this technology? Would you buy it? See you in the comments

If consumers put their money where their mouths are, these numbers could go a long way to bumping up Apple’s overall market share in the UK and the U.S. According to figures from Kantar Worldpanel, in Q2 Apple had an 18.3 percent share of the UK smartphone market; another research group, comScore, puts it around 20 percent. Many other surveys also show similar results which means that this time iPhone will have very high demand than never before. Design:

I have bought Slate Grey, which is more of a bluish hue, and looks stylish nonetheless. There are also the Hot Pink and Golden White color variants of the Nokia C3, and all have metallic finish at the front. The back, where we have the 2MP camera, has a two-colored design. There is an aluminum battery cover in the middle with the front panel color without the metallic finish, and the rest is black plastic, including the sides.

On the left hand side are the microUSB and microSD slots, on the top you will find charging port and the 3.5 audio jack. The only other elements are two small buttons down at both sides that help you easily eject the battery cover.

The regular 2.4” LCD screen with QVGA resolution doesn’t have any touch layers over or under it, and it remains pretty visible under direct sunlight. Right underneath it are the two programmable soft keys, followed by two chrome-like action keys, and finishing down with the send and end buttons. The action keys on both sides of the square D-Pad complement nicely its chrome-like rim, and can be assigned to different tasks. Out of the box the one on the left of the D-Pad starts the Communities app, and the one on the right fires up Messaging, but you can assign different actions to them, which makes the default labeling next to them redundant.

The Nokia C3 thumb board is where the added value comes from, and it has the same four row layout and roughly the same keys as the E-series keyboards, but is slightly curved downwards and thus more comfortable to type. The keyboard is backlit in white like the rest of the physical buttons in the front, with the exception of the ubiquitous green and red for answering and ending a call.

The overall design reminds very much of the smallest Eseries phones from Nokia, which gives it a classy more expensive look; the metal plate over the battery is a thoughtful touch as well. Nokia has gone so far as to even skin the interface to look like the ones on the Eseries devices, so you can easily fool everyone around that you are typing away on a business-class smartphone.

I always wanted to have a laptop which is portable, light and can let me do almost half of the work when am away from my desktop.

The three-pound system not only feels solid, but its inch-thin body is quite slender. The three-cell battery option fits flush with the system, but the six-cell battery adds an extra half an inch in the back. Unlike previous HP Minis, the Mini 210 has all the necessary netbook ports, including three USBs, VGA, Ethernet, SD card and a headphone jack.

Keyboard, touchpad and display:

Its lovely working on matte black keys, nothing annoys you while typing but when it comes to touch-pad its annoying, Because the pad has integrated buttons and supports multi touch gestures, the ClickPad (as HP calls it) has a hard time distinguishing between finger placement on the buttons and on the pad itself. The result is a lot of mistaken zooming when you just want to drag something across the screen.

The Mini 210’s 10.1-inch screen’s flush bezel makes the 1366 x 768 resolution display look higher class than most other net-books, but while colors look bright and the extra pixels make 720p content look crisp, the glossy coating is extremely reflective. Vertical viewing angles good enough when the screen was tilted back, but horizontal viewing angles were quite horrendous.

Battery life, performance:

If we talk about battery life am not satisfied with it, it is said HP Mini 210 can run 5 hours on battery but it isn’t true, Mini can hardly run 2.5 hours on battery and if we talk about performance, am very much satisfied and happy with it, I can blog, listen to music, stay on Facebook and Twitter altogether without having any problem but sometimes I felt Mini getting heat up from left side but it doesn’t slow down anything.

My Nokia 5230

Last time I used Nokia phone was in 2007, and after that, I was quite happy with the brands I was using. However, once again I decided to join the Nokia following bargain so I am back on Nokia now. For last one month and a half, I am using Nokia 5230. A nice phone and good to have it but I am not much satisfied. Well contradiction is there in my last statement but yes, I have to accept it is a nice phone but I am not satisfied because it is missing some certain features for which I bought it.

It is easy to use, and the touch panel works well hence it is bit slow. It has a wide screen so it’s fun to watch videos on it, its music player and radio are also cool but there is a certain feature which is annoying as any SMS dropped in while music, video of radio is on the ring tone spoiled the fun. It is something I am not much familiar with as in my last phone there was only vibration no sound in such case.

Nokia do not allow transferring Music from PC to Phone via blue tooth using pc suite. I got 2 GB memory card with it so far it is enough for me however; it can be extended up to 8 GB card. Writing SMS is not as cool as it used to be on other key oriented phone this might be the reason because I am not used to touch phones.

One thing I must mention here is its voice during the call is quite low, and sometimes it is hard to understand what other person is saying. It can be connected to any speaker using the stereo pin and one can enjoy music with louder voice.

Using internet is an interesting feature on it as being touch oriented phone its really cool to scroll and click on the desired links or pictures. The writing panel that appears while you are writing something e.g. SMS, Email, Text, Web Links, etc is quite user friendly and it changes itself to full key board from conventional keys of phone just by flipping it to the horizontal view. I have noticed that it turns into the landscape mode easily but it take time to sense when it is supposed to resume to the tower view.

The Facebook application work well but the twitter application I got from OVI Store is damn slow. YouTube, Amazone.com, MySpace, and Hi5 are the other pre-installed applications in it. It is connected to net via GPRS and to me the biggest drawback in it is that it do not have Wi-Fi in it.

1. It does not have any word processing application, I desperately wanted to have such app in my phone so that I can write the draughts of my blogs and articles on the go, and I am still not able to get one from OVI store.
2. It has two Mega Pixel camera and more on it there is no flash light so the photos it click are not that good in quality if there is not sufficient light, however the its competitor (as per me) Samsung  Genoa and Samsung Star are offering flash light along with more than 2 MP camera.

OVI store is a good idea but so far, I have not found anything of my interest on it for my phone so to me it has not been useful yet. Nokia 5230 also offers Maps and it is one of the pre-installed features but like OVI store, it has also not been useful for me so far.

Well that is enough for right now I guess and I will review some other phone soon as I am thinking to change it. Well if you are big Nokia fan than you must try it else choose some other one which have better features in less or in same price, well for me spending almost 14 k Pakistani Rupees has not been good experience because of camera and word processing applications, rest it is a cool phone and I am enjoying it so far.
