Omran Shafique, the man behind Mauj was born in Bahrain, at 18 Omran moved to Texas, America. He was interested in Pakistan’s music scene, passionate about music, and guitar as his favorite instrument Omran moved back to Pakistan to pursue music as a career.

Around 2001, he formed a band in Houston named Mauj (means ‘Wave’) being himself as the vocalist and guitarist, Mohsin Atif being the bass player and a co-lyricist. Once Omran moved to Pakistan, Mohsin Atif couldn’t join him and Omran start jamming with his old friends in Pakistan.

The line up had now changed again but nothing could stop Omran from pursuing his passion of music, now in Mauj there is Omran the vocalist and guitarist, Sameer Ahmed who plays bass, Hamza Jafri who plays guitar and Sikandar Mufti who plays the drums. Now Mauj is ready to strike a blow to Pakistan’s music scene.

In 2004, Mauj came up with their first single ‘Khushfehmi’ directed by Babar Sheikh. ‘Khushfehmi’ is a funky jazz style song which became soon a hit in the music charts and showed people what Mauj can do. Another single ‘Paheliyan’ was also released in 2004 which became a hit too.

On 24th April 2009, Mauj released their debut album ‘Now in Technicolor’. This includes their previous hit numbers along with new tracks that amazed listeners from the funky guitars, meaningful deep and sometimes comical lyrics and awesome music. Their originality has given them a unique status internationally and locally.

Along with Mauj, Omran had started a Hip Hop/R&B project called Kostal back in Texas. It began with a DJ/Producer named Taha Malik who helped Omran in recording of his album for Mauj. Kostal released a track named ‘Jaan Jaye’, an album is soon expected from Kostal.

Omran also played in a band called Co-VEN that had the same band members of Mauj, though Omran didn’t get the front seat, Hamza Jafri was given the front seat. Omran has also played for Ali Azmat for his album Klashinfolk.

Omran has done working for a popular music project named Coke Studio, a Pakistani television serious featuring live musical performances. With his help Coke Studio has broadcasted on Pakistani television and radio, fans have increased on official Coke Studio pages.

So far Omran has proved how far one can go in passion, he is an inspiration for youngsters, at very young age he knew he can achieve a lot, he did and yet looking forward to achieve more.
